The renovations to the National Guard Armory in Kenai have been completed, and yesterday, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to open the upgraded facility. Brigadier General Thomas Katkus of the National Guard was in attendance for the ribbon cutting. General Katkus said the improvements meets the National Guard's soldiers requirements for the new missions being asked of them. He said the upgrades make the armory more energy efficient. General Katkus said more is still planned for the armory, including a heli-pad to the side of the building. There will also be upgrades with technology. He said the timeline for these improvements is over the next two to three years.
